Discover Lac de Cazaux and Sanguinet

Lac de Cazaux et de Sanguinet is France’s second largest freshwater lake.
Particularly appreciated for its tranquil environment, it is a delight for nature lovers and families, offering beautiful beaches and forested banks ideal for walks and hikes.
Swimmers, divers and fishermen also thrive in this exceptional natural setting.

Where is the Etang de Cazaux?

Lac de Cazaux et de Sanguinet is one of the largest freshwater lakes in the Landes region. More precisely, it’s located in the north of the département, less than 20 km from the Arcachon basin and just a few minutes from our Biscarrosse campsite.

The pond is particularly appreciated for the beauty of its beaches and banks, but is also impressive for its size, covering an area of eight hundred hectares. In fact, it extends over the territories of four different communes: Sanguinet to the east, Test-de-Buch to the west, Cazaux to the north and Biscarrosse to the south.

The lake, also known as “Etang de Sanguinet”, is linked to Lac Biscarrosse-Parentis, just below, by the Canal du Littoral des Landes. Between these two large bodies of water lies the small Biscarrosse pond.

Nature lovers of all ages thrive on visiting the lake, doing activities on or around this iconic body of water. The location is all the more attractive for its peaceful setting, in the heart of the Landes forest. What’s more, the western shores of the pond are quite close to the ocean.

Nature and a change of scenery at Lake Cazaux and Sanguinet

The Landes is an ideal destination for a relaxing nature vacation with family or friends.
This south-western département boasts a number of natural areas that are as much appreciated for their beauty and authenticity as for their peaceful surroundings. This is particularly true for places like the Etang de Cazaux and the Etang de Sanguinet.
While holidaymakers are particularly enchanted by the beauty of the beaches, they also appreciate the fact that the lake offers a calm environment, particularly to the north, a setting that could not be more conducive to moments of relaxation, escape and a change of scenery.
The lake’s wooded shores are perfect for rejuvenating strolls, alone or with company. These locations are also ideal for a variety of outdoor activities, making for a truly revitalizing stay.

Swimming in Lake Cazaux

The Lac de Cazaux is a delight for all those who long for peace and nature. The Landes pond is particularly appreciated for its calm, being protected from the wind by its forest. It also boasts fine sandy beaches and wild coves.
The beach at Cazaux-Lac is renowned for its calm, shallow waters, ideal for family bathing.

During the summer months, several activities are on offer, and holidaymakers can rent a wide range of equipment. The beach is also accessible to people with reduced mobility.
Holidaymakers can also enjoy Laouga beach, a haven of peace away from the urban world. Families, couples and groups of friends enjoy the peace and shade of the pine trees.
They can also swim in complete safety, or relax on the fine sand.
